Focus Areas Of The HIV /AIDS Health Conference

Under the theme of  “Sexual  Health for  All”,  the health conference of the STIs and HIV World Congress will be held on July 26-30, 2025. The conference program will include a wide range of activities. The sessions are grouped according to the following focus areas

The design of the conference program involves sharing knowledge as it relates to the following

Since the commencement of the HIV/AIDS Congress thirty years ago, the joint biennial  IUSTI-ISSTDR meetings have been the first scientific conferences to address the full range of research on STIs, HIV infections and AIDS.

The IUSTI-ISSTDR meetings cover a broad range of scientific areas. This includes microbiology, virology, immunobiology,  pathogenesis and other basic sciences. The health conference explores topics from diverse perspectives of epidemiology,  prevention and clinical, social and behavioural sciences.

As the sexual health landscape expands, the program has evolved to meet contemporary and changing challenges and needs. Sharing local and community knowledge will also be a theme of the 2025 conference.

  • Jeanne Marrazzo: Jeanne Marrazzo holds the position of the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) at the National Institutes of Health in the United States
  • Henry de Vries: Henry de Vries is a Professor of skin infections at the University of Amsterdam. He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London (FRCP)
  • Helen Rees: Professor Helen Rees is a top global health practitioner focusing on HIV, sexual and reproductive health, and vaccine-preventable diseases. She is the Executive Director of the largest research Institute at the University of Witwatersrand – Wits RHI. Likewise, she is the Co-Director of the Wits African Leadership in Vaccinology Expertise Flagship programme
  • Rayner Tan: Dr Rayner Kay Jin TAN is an Assistant Professor at the University of Singapore Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health and National University Health System
  • Eric Chow: Eric Chow is a Professor of Sexual Health at Monash University, Australia. At the Melbourne Sexual Health Centre, he leads the Health Data Management and Biostatistics Unit. He also co-leads the HIV/STI Clinical Trial Unit
  • Margaret Kisikaw Piyesis: Margaret Kisikaw Piyesis is the Okimaw (CEO), CAAN Communities, Alliances & Networks

  • Lianne Gonsalves is a Scientist working on sexual health in WHO’s Department of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Research
  • Sean Young: Sean Young is a Professor of Emergency Medicine at UC Irvine and the Executive Director of the University of California Institute for Prediction Technology. His area of focus is on digital health interventions and artificial intelligence modeling approaches
  • Anne Hanley: Dr Anne Hanley is a Senior Research Fellow and UKRI Future Leaders Fellow in the Department of Applied Health Sciences at the University of Birmingham
  • Sanjay Ram: Sanjay Ram is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School and an Infectious Diseases physician-scientist. His career focuses on studying and combating STIs
  • Lianne Gonsalves: Lianne Gonsalves is a Scientist working on sexual health in WHO’s Department of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Research

Eligibility For The STI/HIV World Congress Scholarships

The STI/HIV World Congress scholarships will be awarded to the following categories of individuals

  • Graduate students  (masters, doctoral, or postdoctoral)
  • clinical trainees (residents,  students) whose oral abstract has been accepted for the conference. Only those who submit abstracts will have the opportunity to apply for a scholarship. Applications will be submitted during the abstract submission process.

The number of scholarships will depend on the availability of funds and sponsor requests. However, scholarships will be awarded based on merit. Applicants will provide proof of enrollment as a student or clinical intern at their institution.
